Allah's Threat
Allah commands Muslims to wage Jihad and threatens them with eternal damnation if they do not. . [Emphasis added.]9:38. O you who believe! What is
the matter with you, that when you are asked to march forth in the
Cause of Allâh (i.e. Jihâd) you cling heavily to the earth? Are you
pleased with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But
little is the enjoyment of the life of this world as compared with the
Hereafter.
9:39. If you march not forth, He will punish you with a painful torment and will replace you by another people, and you cannot harm Him at all, and Allâh is Able to do all things.

In this surah, Allah is cussing out the Muslims who stayed behind while Moe marched on Tabuk. In the context, he tells them that "Jihad is better for you". Why? First, it earns forgiveness of sins and admission to his celestial orgy. Second, it avoids damnation. Examine the highlighted clause in 9.39 above. The painful torment is mentioned again, as you will see in the next installment in this series of posts.

Descriptions of the Islamic version of Hell are scattered throughout the Qur'an.4:56. Surely! Those who
disbelieved in Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs,
revelations, etc.) We shall burn them in Fire. As often as their skins
are roasted through, We shall change them for other skins that they may
taste the punishment. Truly, Allâh is Ever Most Powerful, AllWise.
5:37. They will long to get out of the Fire, but never will they get out therefrom, and theirs will be a lasting torment
7:50. And the dwellers of the Fire will call to the dwellers of Paradise: "Pour on us some water or anything that Allâh has provided you with." They will say: "Both (water and provision) Allâh has forbidden to the disbelievers."
14:16. In front of him (every obstinate, arrogant dictator) is Hell, and he will be made to drink boiling, festering water.
14:17. He will sip it unwillingly, and he will find a great difficulty to swallow it down his throat , and death will come to him from every side, yet he will not die and in front of him, will be a great torment.
14:49. And you will see the Mujrimûn (criminals, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh Islâmic Monotheism, polytheists, disobedient to Allâh, etc.) that Day bound together in fetters; [Muqarranûn in fetters; mean:- with their hands and feet tied to their necks with chains.]
14:50. Their garments will be of pitch, and fire will cover their faces.
18:29. And say: "The truth is from your Lord." Then whosoever wills, let him believe, and whosoever wills, let him disbelieve. Verily, We have prepared for the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.), a Fire whose walls will be surrounding them (disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh). And if they ask for help (relief, water, etc.) they will be granted water like boiling oil, that will scald their faces. Terrible the drink, and an evil Murtafaqâ (dwelling, resting place, etc.)!
22:19. These two opponents (believers and disbelievers) dispute with each other about their Lord; then as for those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be cut out for them, boiling water will be poured down over their heads.
22:20. With it will melt or vanish away what is within their bellies, as well as (their) skins.
22:21. And for them are hooked rods of iron (to punish them).
22:22. Every time they seek to get away therefrom, from anguish, they will be driven back therein, and (it will be) said to them: "Taste the torment of burning!"
44:43. Verily, the tree of Zaqqûm,
44:44. Will be the food of the sinners,
44:45. Like boiling oil, it will boil in the bellies,
44:46. Like the boiling of scalding water.
44:47. (It will be said) "Seize him and drag him into the midst of blazing Fire,
44:48. "Then pour over his head the torment of boiling water,
44:49. "Taste you (this)! Verily, you were (pretending to be) the mighty, the generous!

78:21. Truly, Hell is a place of ambush,
78:22. A dwelling place for the Tâghûn (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allâh like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.),
78:23. They will abide therein for ages,
78:24. Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink.
78:25. Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges.
78:26. An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes).
78:27. For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning.
78:28. But they belied Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely.
78:29. And all things We have recorded in a Book.
78:30. So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment.

2587. AbU Sa'eed Al-KhudrI
narrated that the Prophet said:
"And therein they will grimace with
displaced lips. 21 - He will be grilled
by the fire until his upper lip is
folded up, reaching the middle of
his head, and his bottom lip hangs
down, until it hits his navel." (DaTJ)
[AbQ 'Elsa said:] This Hadith is
Hasan Sahih Ghar(b.
AbU Al-Haitham's (a narrator in
the chain) name is Sulaimãn bin
'Amr bin 'Abd Al-'Utwarl, and he
was an orphan under the care of
AbU Sa'eed.
narrated that the Prophet said:

The Muslim who does not at least desire to go to Jihad will go to Hell. If he does not equip a Mujahid or support his family, he will be stricken before the day of Judgment i.e. in this world.
Sunan Abu Dawud Book 14, Number 2497:
Narrated AbuUmamah:
The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: He who does not join the warlike expedition (jihad), or equip, or looks well after a warrior's family when he is away, will be smitten by Allah with a sudden calamity. Yazid ibn Abdu Rabbihi said in his tradition: 'before the Day of Resurrection".
Narrated AbuUmamah:
The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: He who does not join the warlike expedition (jihad), or equip, or looks well after a warrior's family when he is away, will be smitten by Allah with a sudden calamity. Yazid ibn Abdu Rabbihi said in his tradition: 'before the Day of Resurrection".
If Muslims abandon Jihad, Allah will curse them until they "return to their original religon". War is the religion of Islam!
Sunan Book 23, Number 3455:
Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar:
I heard the Apostle of Allah, (peace_be_upon_him) say: When you enter into the inah transaction, hold the tails of oxen, are pleased with agriculture, and give up conducting jihad (struggle in the way of Allah). Allah will make disgrace prevail over you, and will not withdraw it until you return to your original religion.
Punishments In The Grave
Mishkat ul-Masabih an anthology, Ch. 5 on page 50No need to wait for Judgment Day. Sinners will be tormented, beaten with iron rods and crushed in their graves. The Muslim who shirks Jihad is in for a rough ride.
Jihad is the get out of Hell free card. Believing Muslims will do it, perpetuating war..
